2016 ElMoto 4Corners - Tallahassee to Titusville, FL
Today was a day of contradictions, it was both easy and challenging, predictable and uncertain, hot and...well it was very hot. The previous night I had arrived at a friend's house at 1am, then we proceeded to talk until 3am. I gave myself an extra hour of sleep and woke at 7:30 then headed out by 8:30 (which was later than I wanted). I have traveled this path before on a road trip last year, so I had been to each charging stop before, but that didn't stop today from presen

2016 ElMoto 4Corners - Austin, TX to Tallahassee, FL
In Austin I visited swing dancing friends Orion and Tina who moved to Spicewood, TX together shortly after getting married to open the TerraPurezza Regenerative Agriculture Institute. They are basically taking back the desert by turning dead dirt into soil that can sustain living plants. This is incredible! I definitely at the freshest food of the trip while visiting. Also, they both work at a local high-end restaurant called Apis Apiary and Restaurant that makes incredibl

2016 ElMoto 4Corners - LA to Austin, TX
Surprise! Your bike didn't charge last night. This is what I woke up to on my first day riding East. Fortunately I hadn't used too much of my battery the day before. At 64% I could get out of the main traffic zone of Los Angeles. So off I went, trying to get as far from LA as possible as early as possible on what will be a roasting hot day. After checking Plugshare I decided to stop at Cal Poly Pomona because college charging stations usually are reliable to charge at duri

2016 ElMoto 4Corners - San Francisco to LA
Today I had a riding partner! Terry Hershner joined me on the ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles. He is the only other person who has gone cross country on an electric motorcycle so far (John Flores did it 1 month after this post), and we met in 2013 on my first cross country trip going from LA to San Francisco. To start the day I traveled alone from San Francisco (really Palo Alto where I was staying) and met up with Terry in Santa Cruz, near Zero HQ and where he lives

2016 ElMoto 4Corners - Sacramento to San Fran
Today was a day of test riding the latest in electric motorcycles! Riding from Sacramento, CA to San Francisco, CA was easy with one stop in Vacaville, CA. Vacaville has had multiple charging stations since I first visited in 2013 after riding my 2012 Zero S across the country. (See Kick Gas the movie at https://vimeo.com/169002549) I arrived in San Francisco only to learn that my first of two test rides for the day was in a different location! Yikes! Fortunately Alta Mo

2016 ElMoto 4Corners - Zero HQ & San Fran Group Ride
Great day visiting Zero Motorcycles HQ and going on a group ride in San Francisco with 5 other Zero riders. These were a great couple of days!

2016 ElMoto 4Corners - Energica Eva Test Ride
Had an exciting test ride on the Energica Eva in the mountains near San Francisco. It turned into an epic 6-hour ride with multiple stops for fast charging. There's more to the story at the end of my daily video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CbpOvwjI9No .

2016 ElMoto 4Corners - Ashland to Sacramento
Waking up without a full battery presents a challenge at the start of an otherwise lovely day. Today is one such day. Since I arrived at the hotel late at night and left early in the morning, I had 80% charge, not enough to get to my first destination. Fortunately, Ashland is a college town and thanks to Southern Oregon University, I had several charging stations ready to fill me up pronto! It only took about 15 minutes and I was on my way by 7:30am. It was cold in the mo
